Moving hydrogen around calls for specialised equipment and trained operators. Surf 'n' Turf has looked carefully at the roads on Eday and the vessels that connect the island to Mainland Orkney, to devise systems that are safe and minimise disruption.
The hydrogen made at the electrolyser on Eday will be fed into a purpose-built storage trailer. Once full, that will be driven to the island's harbour for shipping to Kirkwall aboard one of Orkney Ferries' inter-island vessels.
Surf 'n' Turf is an innovative community renewable energy project in Orkney, Scotland.
It will generate hydrogen from tidal and wind energy, hence Surf 'n' Turf.
