Hydrogen training

Surf n Turf aims to establish hydrogen as one part of Orkney's energy mix. The project lays key foundations for people to use hydrogen for a number of purposes, including as a fuel on board vessels at sea. Safety at sea is highly regulated. Training for crew members is essential before any new fuel could be introduced.

To make sure local people can train in Orkney and benefit from new job roles that require experience working with alternative fuels, Surf n Turf is designing its equipment so we can host accredited courses.

Through collaboration with Orkney Islands Council and Orkney College UHI, hydrogen training will be available on dry land using systems that meet marine specifications.
